If you only have 2 disks a mirror is proberbly the best option to offer some protection as the other raids require additional disks 3x minimum for a raid5. Your other option if you needed more storage would be to combine the disks into a large volume and introduce a cloud storage as a backup/ protection or some other form of backup, but you should be doing this anyways on any data you think requires this as a raid isn't full proof
My suggestion would be to have two independent drives. THe first one is the main drive. Then sync the data from the main drive to the second drive which is the backup drive. For that you can use rsync or rsnapshot.
