Best raspberry pi4 for OMV5

  • Hello everyone!

I'm upgrading my old raspberry pi 3b with OMV4 installed to the new OMV5 and I 'd like to buy a new raspberry pi 4 that has gigabit ethernet.

There are three RAM versions 2,4 and 8 gigabyte with "very" different cost.

I use Samba, Minidlna and Syncthing with 3 HDD to share files in my home network.

I'm sure that buy 8 gigabyte RAM version is the best choice, but should also 2-4 gigabyte version run OMV5 well?

Have you any experience? What's you suggest me?

    P. S. Sometimes I manage big files, 30-40 gigabyte and normally 10 gigabyte minimum.

  • Does Openmediavault work with 64 bit on raspberry pi 4?

Yes BUT it is still beta and the only download includes a desktop (bad) last time I looked.

If not, 8 gigabyte RAM version can't work.

    Is it true?

No, it is not true. If you run the 32 bit version, it just means a process can't use all of the ram. This shouldn't have any effects on OMV.

  • Ryecoaaron thank you very much for answered me.

So, in the near future, when a new (and not desktop) version of raspberry pi 64bit OS will be available also OMV5 running on 8gigabyte Raspberry pi will use all the RAM.

Buy now a 8 Gygabyte Ram is always a good idea... I Think...
