Errors after running omv-update, everything is broken

  • Hi,

    I had a look at the Dashboard on my OMV, saw I was running 5.3.x and figured I would upgrade to the latest version of OMV, so I ran omv-update, it started to run its course but eventually stopped and gave me this error:

    Errors were encountered while processing:

    openmediavault-omvextrasorg

    E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

    root@openmediavault ~ # omv-update

    -bash: /usr/sbin/omv-update: No such file or directory

    root@openmediavault ~ # omv

    -bash: omv: command not found

    root@openmediavault ~ # omv-firstaid

    -bash: omv-firstaid: command not found

    None of the usual OMV commands exist anymore.

    I ran apt-get update and apt-get upgrade, and I got the following error:

    Removing openmediavault-omvextrasorg (5.3.3) ...

    /var/lib/dpkg/info/openmediavault-omvextrasorg.postrm: 22: .: Can't open /usr/share/openmediavault/scripts/helper-functions

    dpkg: error processing package openmediavault-omvextrasorg (--remove):

    installed openmediavault-omvextrasorg package post-removal script subprocess returned error exit status 127

    Errors were encountered while processing:

    openmediavault-omvextrasorg

    E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

    At this point I'm scared of doing anything, I have a LOT of data on the hard drives installed in my NAS and don't want to lose anything.

    What's the best course of action to get OMV back up and running again?

    EDIT: I've removed the faulty file /usr/share/openmediavault/scripts/helper-functions and successfully run apt-get upgrade but OMV is still nowhere to be found, it hasn't re-installed itself after the update. How do I fix this?

    Thanks!

    Mark

    Did you keep your output from omv-update? I would run apt-get install openmediavault and hope whatever you did didn't purge OMV.

    omv 7.0.5-1 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.8 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.13 | compose 7.1.4 | k8s 7.1.0-3 | cputemp 7.0.1 | mergerfs 7.0.4

    Yup I've still got the console open with everything in it. Here's the full output of omv-update: https://pastebin.com/i30un53U

    I tried running that command, but here's the output:

    root@openmediavault /usr/share/openmediavault/scripts # apt-get install openmediavault

    Something conflicted with omv or one of its dependencies (like iptables) and uninstalled it. What packages have you installed lately?? What do you get when you try to install iptables?

    That's the weird thing. My install is pretty-much stock, I haven't really tinkered with it at all...

    Those look fine. You will have to keep trying to install the packages that are blocking until you get to the source problem.

    I'm making progress, I've managed to manually install all the packages I need. I can access my shares from my other computers which is good, however I can't seem to log in to the Dashboard, I'm getting the following error:

    Error #0:
    OMV\Rpc\Exception: Failed to connect to socket: No such file or directory in /usr/share/php/openmediavault/rpc/rpc.inc:141
    Stack trace:

    #2 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/rpc/serviceabstract.inc(123): call_user_func_array(Array, Array)
    #3 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/rpc/rpc.inc(86): OMV\Rpc\ServiceAbstract->callMethod('login', Array, Array)
    #4 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/rpc/proxy/json.inc(97): OMV\Rpc\Rpc::call('Session', 'login', Array, Array, 3)
    #5 /var/www/openmediavault/rpc.php(45): OMV\Rpc\Proxy\Json->handle()
    #6 {main}

    Any idea where this comes from?

    EDIT: I ran omv-engined and now I can access the Dashboard fine. Thanks for your help! :)
