Snapraid with 4 drives but 2 parity drives possible?

  • Unfortunately, I'm limited to snap raid however my original plan was to use RAID 10 with either btfrs and ZFS but now since I need to use Snapraid how can I implement the same setup as RAID 10 would be? I understand I'm working with parity on snap raid but I wanted to ask if I can have 2x8TB drives for all my and data and 2x8TB drives for parity is that possible or do I need to have 5 drives to have 2 disc drive failure protection?

I ask this due to the size of my drives which are 8TB which are too big for me to be comfortable doing a rebuild in what is essentially raid 5 so this is why I want to dedicate 2 drives to parity of 4 drives.

Edit: can I also do this with 3 drives 2 parity one data because as of now I don't have the 4th drive. I was having an error saying I needed at least 3 content files on different disks but I've seen people only using the content switch on the data drives why is this the case for me? is my setup wrong?

    1. It doesn’t hurt to put content on all of your drives.

    2. The SnapRaid documentation states that one parity drive (the largest) is recommended for up to four data drives.

    3. You need to have a backup of your data drives. SnapRaid is not true backup.

System Backup Typo alert: Under the Linux section the command should be sudo umount /dev/sda1 NOT sudo unmount /dev/sda1
