Backup configuration with snapraid and rsync. Fix silent corruption?

I am considering the following backup configuration.

Snapraid data system to prevent silent data corruption. System backup on the same computer with rsync to two drives with unionFS.

I have the following doubt:

If I have not misunderstood the documentation, once the first copy is made, when rsync makes the second copy it does not modify the files that have not been changed since the previous time. If there is silent corrupt data on the backup disks and rsync does not modify them, could you have a corrupt copy? Or would rsync correct them?

I think I have not explained well. How SnapRaid works I think I understand, if I use snapraid on OMV database I will have protection against silent corruption.

What I don't know is how rsync will act when it does the backup. Let's say a backup file gets corrupted after being copied. In the next copy of rsync the file will be corrected since the original is fine or will it continue to be corrupted and rsync will not change it?

I have read in the rsync manual that there is a --checksum option which gives me the impression that it is for this case but I am not sure.
