I was thinking the same, just a little afraid if this is going to work with a obviously buggy system.....................
Cannot login anymore

Two options:
- do a clone of your current drive so that you can go back if needed (recommended anyway)
- if it fails,, do a fresh install

Sorry, that it did not work out as expected / hoped.
Do you have a major problem to reinstall?
-
You have not to apologize, I have to thank you for time and effort. Sometimes there is just no solution.
I did a upgrade to OMV5, which did not work out very well, right now I am stuck with this:
after upgrade no WGUI, run-parts: post.d/70-omv-salt exited with return code 1
the OMV works so fas as it should, so I can store Backups, files and can access it via ssh.
I didn't make a BU of the previous version, it was faulty, so what for.
I might have a BU somewhere, if not, I have to fresh install
-
I would go with a fresh install.
At least you know then, that you have a clean system.
-
@pierrre2000, I would also recommend a fresh install. When I undertook this step, it helped me to invest some time and make beforehand of the current configuration screenshots, really clicking open all the options (in particular in networking) and screenshot them. Probably not very elegant, but it helped me later to quite quickly restore all configuration options as I had them before, not forgetting too many things or trying to remember who had gotten which rights on which shares, or what was the name of the network bridge or the miniDLNA-settings...

Ok, reinstallation is done. As I am quite lazy sometimes, I did copy my "old" /omv/config.xml" in order to save some time by reinitializing my shared drives and users.
actually something went wrong with the syntax. The error message is.
Codeatal error 76: Opening and ending tag mismatch: fstab line 418 and storage (line=481, column=15); Fatal error 76: Opening and ending tag mismatch: system line 6 and fstab (line=482, column=13); Fatal error 76: Opening and ending tag mismatch: config line 2 and system (line=785, column=12); Fatal error 5: Extra content at the end of the document (line=787, column=3)
But I am too stupid to see the error, here my configfile with the reported failures:
Code
Alles anzeigen479 <hidden>0</hidden> 480 </mntent> 481 </storage> 482 </fstab> 483 <shares> 484 <!-- 485 <sharedfolder> <uuid>xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx</uuid> <name>xxx</name> <comment>xxx</comment> <mntentref>xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx</mntentref> <reldirpath>xxx</reldirpath> <privileges> . . . 783 </sharedfolder> 784 </shares> 785 </system> 786 <!-- Web control panel configuration - Do not add any configuration here --> 787 <webadmin> 788 <port>80</port> 789 <enablessl>0</enablessl> 790 <sslport>443</sslport>
I' ve attached some screenshots of the file, maybe the spacing is better to see

That does not work. You need to set up the system in GUI of OMV step by step.
-
Yes, agreed, does not work. So, how do I get my drives back then? They are surely still there, but how to find them?
-
Do they show up in "filesystems" in the GUI of OMV?
You have to restore the config.xml to the state after the fresh install before you exchanged it by the config.xml from the previous installation.
If that is not possible, I am afraid you will have to install again.
-
I've always kept the original config.xml clean after installation, I used a copy for modifying.
Yes, there is the raid shown, see attachment. As soon I try to "add shared folder" I cannot select a "Drive"
-
Did you mount the filesystem in the GUI of OMV after the fresh install?
-
Oh, sorry, cannot remember, installed it few days ago, but had no time to finish off. Just checked, if I can login via GUI. Installation was done with the raid plugged IN (USB-Stick)
If I have to reinstall again, how to proceed properly?
-
I am asking because of #2 here
-
I would do a fresh install to make sure that configuration of the system and config.xml are in sync.
Then mount the filesystem and create shared folders etc.
-
If I did mount it, then definitely via the WebGUI. I've tried to unmount via the GUI without any success. Could the installation with the raid plugged in cause this?

No, I don't think so. But it is recommended to remove all data drives for installation to be sure to not install on the wrong drive.

LOL, yes, I know, but I am still able to tell the difference between a 1TB and a 60GB drive during installation.
Ok, missed the second last answer. will reinstall
-
reinstalled, looks good so far
