OMV starting Problem "emergency mode" on every start

    • Offizieller Beitrag

is that stick possible to operate in long-term usage

Yes because you install the Flash Memory plugin, another mod has had his USB flash drive in use for 4 years.

I created one LVM with 4 hdd's. On this on LVM I have two "partitions". One for multimedia files and one for backups

Ok, I've never used it, but what happens if a hard drive fails

  • ok, Flash Memory plugin says nothing to me yet. I will read regarding this plugin.

When one drive failed all data is lost, 52TB :( (when it is fully loaded)

So this is the next filed I want to address - backup of all data and of course the system drive (I think I also need this to clone the system drive)

But data security/backup makes only sense (in my mind) when the machine completely works like it should.

You just install it, no config

When one drive failed all data is lost

:) well at least you know that, check out unionfs and snapraid plugins

  • So, first I want to set my boot drive to a USB port directly on the motherboard. I think this the cheapest and fastest way to remove the additional sata card. I want to do this instead buying and installing all new on a usb drive. So I only have to look for a sata to (motherboard)usb connector.

Do you think this lead to a new problem.

To be honest I’m afraid to set up all new on the usb drive and lose all my data especially on the LVM.

Just search for sata to usb, this won't create another problem but you may have to do an update-grub + it should be possible to set the m'board bios to boot from from that usb device.

  • So, I’m back with the ugreen sata to usb connector. Therefore I disassembled the sata card. After starting the NAS (three or four times - cause it goes automatically off) the system drive is automatically found correct (can that be after moving from the sata card to usb?). After three reboots the originally warning appears, I logged me in and entered the command update-grub again. Now, I hope all is well (with this specific issue).

  • After a couple of tests (restarts and reboots) I have to notice that the warning ‚press command + D‘ comes still and the machine still boots into emergency mode.

Do you have an idea what goes wrong?

when I'm correct, I can only choose the Label of the volume (what should be the USB drive)

That's selecting the boot option from the boot options menu, you need to enter setup which is the main m'board bios and set/enable usb boot from there, and if possible to set that SSD which is now connected to usb as the first boot device.

  • Oki doki, so I entered the UEFI and navigated to the boot options.

    Here we are

There stands nothings with usb, but the Debian disk should be (the only) systemdrive connected to the USB port.

  • Yes, fast boot is available and disabled (screenshot 2). Do I need this fast boot?

  • and the power supply has 72W

    52TB

Because I have 4 other data drives (the board offers only 4 ports)

Sorry to pitch in but you're feeding ALL that stuff with only 72W??? <<<---- EDIT, you have a 90W upcharger....72W is the charger
Maybe I'm at loss here but ITX without a PSU of, at least 450W????

Even more with 4 data drives, 1 ssd, etc...

Or I'm not following this right but your signature show this ---^^^^

Maybe you should try to give some more juice to the rig....
