Your drives should be mounting by-UUID and if so you should be able to change the label without introducing any problems as OMV no longer mounts by-label.
You need to change the label from the CLI. However, as the filesystems will be mounted by UUID (unless they use btrfs), why do you care about the label?
Be aware, that if the filesystems are currently mounted by label, they will be mounted by UUID if you unmount/mount them (unless they use btrfs).
If you unmount a data disk and remount it in the GUI it will almost certainly become mounted by-UUID and Identity As that way , or at least it should if you are running an up to date OMV 5. Look in /etc/fstab to see how disks are mounted. You can still see the Label in the Filesystems view if desired.

Yes it is normal. Also, if you unmount an existing disk in the OMV WebGUI and mount it again, you will see that the mountpoint will have changed to by-uuid.

One or the proposed solutions is to create a symlink to the filesystem and use it instead of the long mount point.
I hope it was really necessary because it's very annoying

Yes, it will mean reconfiguring more than a dozen dockers here and other things too. I am going to wait until I add my next new disk to do this.

Not a good idea, because then the information OMV has is not consistent with fstab.
One result is, that the modification to fstab will be reverted as soon as you mount another filesystem and OMV rewrites fstab.

Mine were mounted by label. I am running the latest OMV as of a couple of weeks ago and latest was still the same when I last checked a few days ago, so a very recent change. I simply used the web GUI to create the filesystems and mount them. It used the labels.
I already have a script that creates a link to each /srv filesystem so I can simply refer to them by name alone (no dev-disk-by-label… etc). Now I will have to re-write as a more complicated scripts to get the name of each etc.
I have to say that changing to mounting by UUID is a backwards step in my view. I understand it might be a great idea for developers, but I think it's horrible for the user.

I just checked and the latest ver. is still 5.5.11, same as mine. Apparently not been changed since Sept. last year. When was the change to using UUID mounting introduced?

I saw the 5.6.2 notice in the blog, but seemed to be for SBC only. Maybe I misread. However…
Following your link and then the Download link to the Sourceforge page, the link there to "Download Latest Version" is stated as for 5.5.11 and that is the folder displayed in the list below. That's what I was going by as it seemed the official source.
If there's a better way to obtain the latest, pray tell.
