OMV cannot save settings any more & installs the same updates every day again

  • Hello, dear community,

I have a problem which I couldn't solve since days, googling didn't help:

Since some weeks OMV started to install the same list of updates every day. It installes exactly the same versions of packages over the existing ones that already have these versions.

Today I tried to turn off the "backports" repo, since I thought it could cause the issues. But OMV can't save this setting any more (which worked months ago), it reports the error message following at the end of this post. If I click "Apply" config changes in the yellow message on top of the screen, the same error appears. I can revert, but also after rebooting the problem persists.

    How can I fix this?

My system is version 5.6.5-1 on a raspberry pi 4B.

Thanks a lot & best regards,

    Sil

  • Hi, macom,

after reading the thread you mentioned above I checked the contents of the *.list files and executed the following:

    sudo mv /etc/apt/sources.list.d/openmediavault-os-security.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/openmediavault-os-security.bak

    sudo mv /etc/apt/sources.list.d/openmediavault-kernel-backports.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/openmediavault-kernel-backports.bak

    sudo apt-get update

    sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/libapt-inst2.0:armhf.md5sums

    sudo apt-get update

    sudo apt-get clean

    sudo apt-get --reinstall install libapt-inst2.0

    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Not sure if "sudo apt-get --reinstall install libapt-inst2.0" is required in my case, but to be on the safe side...

Then I rebooted the OMV-raspberry via the webinterface.

It looks good now, at least I am able to change and apply configuration changes again!

I will observe if it continues to re-install the same things every day, but I think I had the issue having raspbian- and debian-packet-sources configured. So it's better not to touch the "Backports" switch under raspbian again.

Thank you very much for your great and quick help !

    Best regards,

    Sil
