Hello! How can users have only access to view or download the files / folders (Video, Audio, etc.) that I have shared? I managed to get OMV accesed from the internet via port forward. Users will connect from outside the local network to OMV, via the internet.I would like to have the exact same system in OMV as Google Drive. The folders need to be organized like a Tree, and the interface for users need to be very simple, only view or download the files / folders, nothing else. I know about, NextCloud, OwnCloud, Pydio, but I would like to know if this can only be done in OMV, maybe with FTP or WebDav, or something like this? Thank you!
How can users have only access to view or download the files / folders, from outside the local network, with a very simple interface just like the one in Google Drive?

This is a big security risk unless your accessing with https.
IMO, The only user that needs access to OMV is it's administrator.
OMV isn't a fileshare software.

No, you can only create and manage shares for use on other apps (either ftp, smb, nfs, etc)
You'll always need other apps to access the shares.
Nextcloud with SWAG and you'll have a replacement to Google and with the functions you asked (fileshare, WebDAV, download/upload to folders,).
With the extra add that it's running on httpsYou can even add a reverse-proxy on SWAG, to redirect to OMV, so you can have https access to it (for administration purposes).

Thanks for the quick response!
I have a couple of question:
1 - What is SWAG?
2 - How can install Nextcloud and Swag?
You wrote:

3 - What are these apps that can use FTP, SMB, NFS? Can you recommend any application? I'm a beginner, but I really like OMV!
Thank you very much!

1 - What is SWAG?
It's a reverse-proxy that redirects the calls to the server in order for you to have a secured (https) access to services running there.
2 - How can install Nextcloud and Swag?
[How-To] Nextcloud with swag (Letsencrypt) using OMV and docker-compose - Guides - openmediavault
3 - What are these apps that can use FTP, SMB, NFS? Can you recommend any application?
It all depends on what you want to do.
For e.g.: If you want to have access to a folder from a Windows computer, you create a samba (smb) share on the OMV and then, in your Windows computer, on the same network, you will be able to see it from the Explorer, on the Network separator.
For FTP, the same. and so on...
Then, there are ways to have outside access, but that requires more and more knowledge.
If you want to keep it simple (and, as you said, you're a beginner) start slowly with simple tasks and move from there.
Nextcloud will give you a good Cloud server without the need of beeing an expert,

I recommend swag and nextclod too, or swag & webdav for a minimal interface.
swag is called letsencrypt ( now is called swag), you can read a good HOWTO on my signature
-
some simple alternatives to nextcloud:
Filebrowser: https://filebrowser.org/
Filerun https://docs.filerun.com/docker
pwndrop https://github.com/linuxserver/docker-pwndrop
PsiTransfer https://hub.docker.com/r/psitrax/psitransfer/

OMV6 won't show the rootfs unless you install the shared root folder plugin.
-
How can I do this? From what I read on the forum, ( on the run ), it is not advisable to proceed in this way, to share the root folder.
Thanks!

Just because you install the plugin, doesn't mean it's sharing the rootfs.
Only if you create it

correct, is not advisable , but usefull for small NASes that only have one disk.
I use sharerootFS to have a pihole docker in a minimun Hardware.

Not sure, but maybe you need to set MaxStoreFileSize in the extra options for the share.

Thank you for answer!
Can you show how and where can i do this settings?

Thank you, Macom!
I did it, but unfortunately the problem is the same.
Maybe it's not working well because i use OMV 6 Beta, or i did something wrong somewhere in the settings?
I can try to install OMV 5, but i like very much this Menu of OMV 6. It's very well organized.
I've tried OMV 4 in the past, but because of the menu I couldn't do much.

Maybe somebody else has another idea.

I tried to install updates, maybe the problem will be solved, but i get this message.
The same thing happened to me a few days ago in a test I did. I thought it was a problem with my system but I see that it is exactly the same, so this must be a widespread problem. Unfortunately I no longer have it to report more details.

do a "omv-upgrade" from a shell to install linux images.
