Cannot install updates

  • When I go to the update manager I see there are many pending updates but if I try to update them I got many errors related to mirrors.pidginhost.com not being resolved.

I've attached the error logs. I tried to look for that url in my sources.list but I cannot find it.

    Files

    • log.txt

      (35.46 kB, downloaded 21 times, last: )
  • This is the content of my /etc/apt/sources.list

deb http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian/ buster main contrib non-free rpi

    # Uncomment line below then 'apt-get update' to enable 'apt-get source'

    # deb-src http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian/ buster main contrib non-free rpi

  • Sorry to butt-in, but can you also try and post the output of:

    grep -rn '/etc/apt/' -e 'buster'

Or see if the server is up:

    ping -c 5 mirrors.pidginhost.com

    Will look like this:

  • Sure!

Here it is. The output of ping -c 5 mirrors.pidginhost.com is:

    Code
    PING mirrors.pidginhost.com (176.124.104.176) 56(84) bytes of data.
    --- mirrors.pidginhost.com ping statistics ---
5 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 181ms

For grep -rn '/etc/apt/' -e 'buster':

  • All your sources look good although I don't know this one (which means you installed something outside of the normal way of installing a Pi image and OMV for Raspberry):

    Code
    /etc/apt/sources.list.d/nodesource.list:1:deb https://deb.nodesource.com/node_8.x buster main
    /etc/apt/sources.list.d/nodesource.list:2:deb-src https://deb.nodesource.com/node_8.x buster main

    You can start by those:

sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/nodesource.list and put a # at the beginning of each line.

    It will become:

    Code
    # deb https://deb.nodesource.com/node_8.x buster main
    # deb-src https://deb.nodesource.com/node_8.x buster main

    Ctrl+O, Enter and then, Ctrl+X

    On the CLI, run:

    sudo apt update

Post the complete output here inside a code box </>

  • Here it is the output of the command:

  • No errors, 👍

Now, you can goto OMV GUI and check for updates and update.

I think It will run Ok, 😉

  • Still not working. I've attached the output as the message is too long and I can't post it as a code block.

As macom said, that mirror might be overloaded (it's not down since we can ping it).

Are you in Romania (according to the mirrors, that's where pidgin is located)?

It's possible to change the repos to a different mirror, instead of the redirect made by raspbian.
