Problem with HDD, Stripe

  • Hi there

I have a problem with my Raid 0/Stripe Array. One disk /dev/sde is causing some strange errors and my syslog gets filled up like crazy. I really don't know what the problem is.
But I have observed two strange things with my array.

    1. At some point in time OMV reported that my array (md127) wasn't mounted, but it was still browsable from the terminal. (almost no files where there but part of the folder structure was)
    2. Due to some errors my array gets remounted in read-only mode.
    3. My drive /dev/sde has one out of spec value reported by S.M.A.R.T.

    You drive is dying

    Code
    197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 29
    198 Offline_Uncorrectable 0x0030 200 200 000 Old_age Offline - 4

I would check the other drive, replace the defect ones and restore a backup.

You know, that with RAID 0 all data are gone when one drive fails?

  • Thank you for your response.

What do I need to look out for to detect a failing drive? I only looked at theReallocated_Event_Count.

And yes I'm aware of my data loss if one drive fails.

197 and 198 > 0 means the drive already has failed and uncorrectable sectors.
