Raid5 is suddenly missing

  • Hi everyone,

I have almost the same problem as on this old thread : RAID 5 Missing - need help for rebuild

But before I do anything, I would like your confirmation on how to proceed and avoid losing all my data (last backup of my raid was ... 2 months ago - sorry I was in exam period :S)

    blkid:

    Code
    /dev/nvme0n1p1: UUID="2f06c183-22cc-45c8-8b52-3440151c21b6" TYPE="ext4" PARTUUID="956352e9-01"
    /dev/nvme0n1p5: UUID="7ff88d8d-4f25-45b2-b5bd-07195cd7b0a0" TYPE="swap" PARTUUID="956352e9-05"
    /dev/sdc: UUID="a575048e-f8f1-a8ec-a13c-3eb32d101c88" UUID_SUB="dc9a3685-a540-1c37-51e4-1c8601362b80" LABEL="NAS-V4:Raid5" TYPE="linux_raid_member"
    /dev/sdb: UUID="a575048e-f8f1-a8ec-a13c-3eb32d101c88" UUID_SUB="bc41b039-e27b-2ad1-b440-2ab6ddec9dc5" LABEL="NAS-V4:Raid5" TYPE="linux_raid_member"
    /dev/sda: UUID="a575048e-f8f1-a8ec-a13c-3eb32d101c88" UUID_SUB="44573f27-06e9-ffb8-5cff-2a53a8ae65e3" LABEL="NAS-V4:Raid5" TYPE="linux_raid_member"
    /dev/nvme0n1: PTUUID="956352e9" PTTYPE="dos"

    cat /proc/mdstat :

    Code
    Personalities : [linear] [multipath] [raid0] [raid1] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4] [raid10]
    md0 : inactive sdc[2](S) sda[0](S) sdb[1](S)
          11720662536 blocks super 1.2

    unused devices: <none>

    mdadm --detail /dev/md0 :

    mdadm --examine /dev/sda :

    mdadm --examine /dev/sdb :

mdadm --examine /dev/sdc : last line, I dont understand why there is 2 "." (missing) in Array State

    I thought I would just do :

    mdadm --stop /dev/md0

    then

mdadm --assemble --force --verbose /dev/md0 /dev/sd[abc]

I'd like your confirmation as it concerns data I dont wont to lose :whistling:.

    Am I good ?

    NAS Config : G5400 3,70Ghz / 12Go RAM DDR4 / 128 Gb SSD M.2 / RAID5 3*4To HDD CMR / OMV 4.1 <3

  • Thank you both for your answers. It worked perfectly <3 ! Any idea why this happened?

Doctor geaves will be here soon...

Is your system OMV4 as your signature says?

Yes, it is OMV 4. Do you think it is worth upgrading to OMV 6?

The norm is a power outage, or the system has been powered down by pulling the plug or hitting the power button.

Do you think it is worth upgrading to OMV 6

A clean install would be appropriate, disconnect all your data drives and use a new/clean installation drive, update it, install omv-extras then connect your raid

I have the same opinion. Continuing with OMV4 shouldn't be an option.

Upgrading from OMV4 to OMV5 is feasible. Although a route with possible complications, I see it every day in the forum.

OMV6 is already very stable, in the absence of refining the plugins.

For me the ideal option is to do a clean installation of OMV6, spend a morning reconfiguring everything and enjoy the server for a few years.
