Odroid HC upgrade omv5-omv6 stability issues (edit: rclone)

  • hi all

I succesfully upgraded... but I'm expierencing stability issues.

before (omv5) it ran for weeks and months .... now it crashes after a few days, but cant find the errors.

only solution for me is hard power reset (unplugging and plugging power)

can someone guide me where I can find a log of what happened? the OS is on a sd card, so the flash-addon is installed

  • Hi, I don't have experience with Odroid HC but OMV6 is rock-solid on RPi CM4 with 64bit kernel.

I was surprised that your SBC has kernel 4.14 because OMV6 requires Bullseye (Debian 11) and their minimal kernel seems 5.10

omv 6.9.6-2 (Shaitan) on RPi CM4/4GB with 64bit Kernel 6.1.21-v8+

2x 6TB 3.5'' HDDs (CMR) formatted with ext4 via 2port PCIe SATA card with ASM1061R chipset providing hardware supported RAID1

omv 6.9.3-1 (Shaitan) on RPi4/4GB with 32bit Kernel 5.10.63 and WittyPi 3 V2 RTC HAT

    2x 3TB 3.5'' HDDs (CMR) formatted with ext4 in Icy Box IB-RD3662-C31 / hardware supported RAID1

Bullseye doesn't have a minimum kernel version. For Debian maintained kernels, that is the minimum version. For SBCs, it is whatever Armbian maintains. Armbian does have a 5.4 kernel available for the xu4/hc1/hc2.

As for the stability, upgrades are hard on SD cards. I really avoid doing upgrades on those systems. With Armbian, there are weird kernel issues too. You could try to using armbian-config to install the 5.4 kernel but I haven't had much luck. Just backup your SD card before trying. My best recommendation would be to buy a new SD card and install Armbian Bullseye fresh followed by the install script.

You must have an old version of omv-extras. That command was removed from omv-extras 6.x.

What are you hoping to fix? You have a mix of OMV versions for plugins (symlinks and diskstats need to be upgraded).

that I can fully use the web interface? now it pretty useless.. cant add a shared folder or a user for example...

I think I'll look into a new sd card and do a new install.....

I have also a old HP workstation (16gb, 8core dual cpu xeon) lying around and some HDD's and ssd's. but that would be a bad choice in electricity use (compared to that odroid)

  • did'nt bother to make a new install on a new sd-card.

it looks to be rclone (website) that I used to sync my backups to an online source that made my OMV-system to crash.

so I disabled the cron script that made rclone run - and now I'm stable since 20 days!

Changed the title of the thread from “Odroid HC upgrade omv5-omv6 stability issues” to “Odroid HC upgrade omv5-omv6 stability issues (edit: rclone)”.
  • Can you please give a pointer to the specific error, as others (me) are using rclone too.

If you got help in the forum and want to give something back to the project click here (omv) or here (scroll down) (plugins) and write up your solution for others.

  • No error that I can see, but running rclone makes the load go >50 and the system chokes. That’s in combination with my odroid
