Difference between raid size and available size

  • Hello,

yesterday I updated my omv 5 to omv 6.

Now I see that I have a difference between my raid storage space and volume storage space.

I'm on raid5 with 4 drives (3 of 3TB and 1 of 4TB) so I should have 9TB of storage and 3TB for security. But instead I have 6TB of storage and 3TB of security as if a disk failed but I don't have any errors.

Do you know where it can come from ?

    Thank you

    Approved the thread.
  • Space on the raid array is: (number_of_disks - 1 ) * size_of_smalles_disk

How much space you have on the file system depends, if you used the whole array when you created the partitions and the file system or not. You can try to enlarge the file system with resize2fs if ony the file system is too small.

If you got help in the forum and want to give something back to the project click here (omv) or here (scroll down) (plugins) and write up your solution for others.

  • If you had a file system of 9 TB in OMV5 nothing should change by the operating system update and now I see, it is btrfs, so resize2fs will not work.

    Strange.

  • Ok,

I solved the problem! I had my 3TB in device slack.

I did a "btrfs filesystem resize +2730G /srv/dev-disk-by-id-md-name-OMV-volume1/" and now I have my 3TB available.

Thanks for the resize2fs idea. This allowed me to find the solution.
