wake on LAN refuses to work on OMV 6

  • I have just installed OMV 6 and I cannot manage to get my machine to wake from WOL. It was working on version 5. I have enabled it in the admin page and it shows WOL check. If I show ethtool for my interface I see Supports Wake-on: pumbg and wake-on:d

I am going to guess that d is disabled? I have also tried this on the first aid tool and still I am not able to get this to work. If I use any of the apps I've been using to wake up the machine, it will not work. I know I have the correct MAC address because I am getting it from the admin page. Does anyone know what is going on? My card is an intel NIC, it has dual ports but I am only using one at the moment. enp2s0f0

    thanks

edit: D does mean it is not enabled because I found that G is enabled. For some reason it won't stick in the config.

  • so I did ethtool -s enp2s0f0 wol g but I know if you reboot this value will go away, or I recall that is what happens. I made that change with ethtool, ran omv-firstaid. I checked ethtool again and it still shows g. I decided to reboot to see if the change was lost. So far it seems to be sticking but I will know better after shutdown.

seems to have stayed after shutdown. I'm not sure why it wasn't staying enabled when running at least omv-firstaid. I know in the past when I have had issues, that at least worked.

  • Well not a direct solution, but a tip.

I quit using WOL as it always gets borked up on certain HW/SW and simply is a hassle to use on multiple OS devices.

My workaround? I use a smart AC socket. Google Home compatible. I set up in BIOS to power On after AC loss and it works like a charm. It also counts how much your NAS consumes while running as a bonus.

I scroll down a toggle from any decent android phone to power up the socket when I need, without any other magic packet mojo.
