Nextcloud not available

  • Hello all,

I've been running Nextcloud using this guide for many months and all has been well. Recently, I cannot access Nextcloud. I get to the login screen, enter my credentials and get this message:

"Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator if this error reappears multiple times, please include the technical details below in your report. More details can be found in the server log."

There are no technical details below and this is what the logs in OMV say. Has one of my disks died?

    Thanks!

    Nick.

What about Nextcloud logs? You will find them in sth like appdata/nextcloud/config/log or whatever you bind mounted to Nextclouds /config

But yeah looks like your drive died.

I don't see that log location on my system.

docker logs -f nextcloud should also show the log however (or you could click the log icon next to the nextcloud container, if you have Portainer)

There are different logs. You described how to show the log of the docker container. I was talking about the app log. But I was wrong nevertheless. Using linuxserver.io image, under /config/log you should find the logs of nginx and php. The app log of nextcloud is at /data/nextcloud.log.

  • Thank you, both.

I did get reasonably good at navigating things via ssh but sadly I have completely forgotten all that I learnt. I have taken the simpler option of using Portainer and that is below for you. I hope this is the correct way to attach a log.

    Thanks for your help,

    Nick.

  • OK, well - I'm now unable to ssh in, though I have remembered some of my (limited) ssh skills, so that's good.

The hardware in question has a faulty fan and limited storage that really needs increasing, and I have just set up a new system with a nice big 5TB drive in it.

All the files that were stored on Nextcloud are on PCs and Laptops within the household, so there is nothing lost save for some shared calendars that I'd like back, if possible (these are also on household smartphones)

Would it be beyond a beginner like me to set up a new instance of Nextcloud using the guide I referered to earlier that would replace the exisitng one that seems to have died? I mean could I use the same domain name for external access and, when setting up the new instance of Nextcloud, just load all the files from the computers in the household back onto the new installation?

    I hope this makes sense.

    Thanks,

    Nick.

    Added the Label OMV 5.x
  • Not absolutely certain but I think it would not work since your new Nextcloud setup has a new instance id. So you can indeed setup a new Nextcloud instance but I think the client apps will need a re-login and act like it is another Nextcloud instance (what it is).

You can of course try to copy the database files, config.php and data directory from the old Nextcloud instance to the new one. But it is kind of tinkering around and you should backup the files on clients first.

  • Many thanks, I'll just install the new instance, if I can. At the moment I'm a bit stuck with this, but hopefully I'll be able to resolve that!

I must say the new GUI is very impressive on OMV6.

    Thanks again,

    Nick.

    You should be able to..

Do you not know your absolute paths to your folders?

In OMV 6, click on Shared folders.. click the 4 squares in the upper right and put a check next to absolute path.

The absolute paths to your folders will show, click the little icon next to the path to copy it. Copy the folder wherever you keep your /config directories

Now go to your compose and paste that folder in and append it with any aditional folder names it needs.

  • Hey, KM0201, many thanks!

At wotk at the moment so I'll try this when I get home this evening. I haven't yet created any shared folders but I suppose I could create one on the data drive.

    All the best,

Obviously, I don't know how you set docker up, but on mine, all of my "/config" paths, are under AppData...

    so..

So the absolute path for my nextcloud config folders look something like this...

    Code
/srv/dev-disk-by-uuid-26cefdd5-3caf-4bb2-ac2e-2fa87ba6328e/AppData/nextcloud:/config #this would be for nextcloud

/srv/dev-disk-by-uuid-26cefdd5-3caf-4bb2-ac2e-2fa87ba6328e/AppData/netclouddb:/config #this would be for necxtclouddb

    Hope that helps.
