[SOLVED] Can't get HW transcoding working on my system (was working with omv 5.x)

Hi,

I'm trying to get Plex and Jellyfin (installed via deb and not via docker) to transcode using my hardware.

I have a Xeon which can transcode and an Nvidia QUadro P620 which also can.

Infact prior to the new install of omv6 they where working perfectly.

I read the guide written by chris_kmn and I got to the point were all the installation have been successful.

I had to install proxmox kernel though because with the last kernel the module compilation failed no matter what.

I rebooted, I launched nvidia-smi which showed my card correctly, but every time I try to transcode with plex in the logs I find these lines

[Req#2b/Transcode] [FFMPEG] - Failed to initialise VAAPI connection: -1 (unknown libva error)

I really don't know what to do and any help is really appreciated.

After a LOT of tries and errors I found a post that pointed me to install libnvidia-tesla-470-encode1 package and that was the solution!

I decided to start from scratch and using normal debian repositories. The installation of the drivers went ok but I had errors in plex logs that complained about missing libraries. I installed those libraries (libnvcuvid1 and libnvidia-encode1) but i wasn't enough. I don't remember of such a problem with omv 5.x and no guide found here and on the internet mentioned those packages, but for me they were needed.

Now I'm happily transcoding

I did chris_kmn , actually. I did install libnvidia-encode1, but it wasn't working until in installed the libnvidi.a-tesla-470-encode1 package, not sure why.

Like I said on our conversation I had hard time to get the copilation done for the kernel module when installing from backports.

I did again and again multiple times (at one time I even locked myself out of my system removing all the installed kernel, don't ask me how...), but never worked.

At one time I decided to install without using the -t switch and the compilation went through.

Plex and Jellyfin are transcoding using nvidia card.

The only missing piece (but I don't know if it's related) is that ffmpeg (the standard one and the one that comes with jellyfin don't work when called from the command line and give me a libva error:

I checked and nvidia_drv_video.so is not present in any recent debian package, so I am out of options, but, again the main thing is that Plex and Jellyfin are transcoding just fine.

Maybe is my machine that is strange. I also have a strange and rare bug with omv-salt being extremely slow and no clue on how to resolve it.
