HOWTO: WEBMIN installation on OMV

  • Ok, this is very easy ofcourse for most of us, but anyway, just to help the beginners:

    http://www.webmin.com/deb.html

    1) SSH with PUTTY (http://www.putty.org/) - make sure you enable SSH in your OMV panel !

    2)

    Code
    wget http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/webadmin/webmin_1.760_all.deb

    3) dpkg -i web (then press TAB to complete the name)

    4) apt-get -f install

    Done !

You can now login to https://your_server_ip:10000/ as root with your root password, or as any user who can use sudo to run commands as root.

    ;) Arthur

  • I adjust your post a bit Arthur. Thanks for your enthusiasm! :D

It was not necessary to do your old line 3, adding all the dependencies. The "apt-get -f install" will do all that after install the webmin package.
"dpkg -i" is way to go with install. It's just less typing.

  • what I like about webmin, which is optimized surface for smartphones.

    Server:
    BitFenix Phenom M - ASRock B75 Pro3-M - 8GB Crucial B.S. - Intel G2140 - Corsair CX430M - 1x 64GB SanDisk SDSSDP (system) - 2x 2TB WD20EARX (data) - 1x 3TB WD30EFRX (Snapraid) - TBS6981 DVB-S2 - OMV 0.5x

  • There are a number of modules ( what webmin calls plugins) that are useful in webmin. If you do not find a certain plugin you need in OMV it is a good place to check to see if they have one you might need. I use a module to manage Hylafax.

  • Thanks for this excellent post!

I use Webmin on my other server on a daily basis and although I like the web interface of OMV there is nothing that surpasses Webmin.
