[openmediavault-wireguard plugin] client mode?

  • Hello all.

I have OMV6 on a Pi4B with official wireguard plugin.

I have an OpenWRT router on another location with a WireGuard server running through which I route all the traffic from my PCs, Smartphones...etc.

I have checked that the wireguard plugin in OMV offers the possibility to create a tunnel, but I would like to generate a peer for the Pi4 and route all the traffic through my WireGuard server, so I am looking more for a kind of "switch" like the WireGuard client app for Android or client for Windows.

Is it possible with the plugin or shoudl I look for something outside OMV ecosystem?

  • I have checked the wireguard docker (linuxserver/wireguard) allows to configure it as client mode (dropping configuration in wg0.conf).

It works, but I would like to ask if it would be possible to do it via the plugin, as it is more straightforward to enable/disable than editing an internal file or stopping/starting a container.

    Thanks.

No, the plugin can't act as a client yet. I am working on it but it has been low priority.

Thank you for the quick response and for the great job on OMV.

I will stick to the docker by now. I guess start/stop the container is not that tedious.

    Regards.

has there been any update on this or is it still not possibleto connect OMV to a Wireguard server as a client through the web interface?

Yeah. You can now create a tunnel with the custom parameters you need using the Custom Config tab. https://wiki.omv-extras.org/do…gement_of_a_custom_config

  • Thanks - I just tested it and works great. I wish the toggling of the connection was faster (e.g. a checkbox or toggle) instead of the six clicks currently needed, but that might just be a limitation of the OMV web interface.
