omv 6 migration

  • I have been working on a new OMV6 build on my spare PC which I'm testing.

When I inserted my OMV system flash drive from my spare PC to main PC, I can see its boots to the login but for some reason its not connecting to network (whereas it did on spare PC) and therefore I can't access the OMV GUI.

I tried to configure the network interface through omv-firstaid but that didn't work.

Is there any other setting I can check?

I'm pretty certain the hardware/network cable work fine.

What does that mean? How are you configuring the interface? DHCP? Are you getting an ip address? If yes, can you ping the gateway ip address? What isn't working?

It was working fine, all configured / connecting on my laptop. When I removed the flash drive onto my PC), its not connecting/pinging via network interface even though its setup with a static IP address in the OMV GUI.

EDIT: I tried to boot it again and the network interface through OMV GUI has reset itselfd to DHCP - not sure why this has happened.

When you move an existing install to a new system, you can forget about any network setup you did on the source system. The network interface will have a different name invalidating any previous network setup you did. That is why you must run omv-firstaid.

You either told it to use dhcp when running omv-firstaid or you have a strange install that has the dhcp client installed.
