Upgrading from Release: 2.2.14 Codename: Stone burner to the newest OMV 6.x (OMV 2.x -> OMV 6.x)

  • Hello,

I want to put an old OMV installation back into operation. At the moment it is running OMV 2.x (2.2.14) and I want to update to the latest version 6.x. The settings do not need to be retained, I want to set this up again. I don't have RAID and the data is on a separate disk with EXT4. Currently mounted with this settings:

    Code
    20 1 8:1 / / rw,relatime - ext4 /dev/disk/by-uuid/61da87c8-7f64-4997-b1cc-3cda4aeb1653 rw,errors=remount-ro,user_xattr,barrier=1,data=ordered

So will this upgrade procedure working?

    • I would now like to disconnect the data disk,
    • replace the existing OMV boot disk with an SSD and install OMV 6.x and later
    • after several boot then reconnect the data disks.

And do I have to import the data disk with EXT4 or will be this disk automatically found and mounted by by-uuid?

And to make sure I have currently 2GB of Memory and this will work with OMV 6.x as well?

    many thanks,

    Jochen

  • 1 - you need to import the data disk, and then share folders.

2 - yes, must work for a normal home use

  • Should work like you wrote it.

I just "upgraded" my old OMV System from 2015 with a software raid 5 that way.
