Shared folder not showing up in MiniDLNA

  • Well this is a bit odd. I have a shared folder, it's visible under Storage > Shared Folders

I'd like to have it available for the MiniDLNA service. But it does not show up under Services > MiniDLNA > Shares > Create > Select a Shared Folder

All my other shares do show up in the Service's dropdown, just not this one.

I am sharing a subfolder of my target folder, and it's registered with the MiniDLNA . . . perhaps that's a reason?

The minidlna plugin uses OMV's sharedfolder dropdown component. If you can't see the shared folder in the minidlna plugin, you probably can't see it in samba or nfs either. Did you try ctrl-shift-R to refresh the cache? Post a screenshot of your shared folders.

  • Try deleting the share and re-creating it. (Do Not delete share+data)

I did have a similarly finicky share one time several years ago and delete and re-create fixed it.

Also, if by chance that folder was named with a Mac, make sure there is no trailing space in the folder name. Mac will let you have leading and trailing spaces in file and folder names, but it drives other OS’s nuts because they are not allowed.

Please don't. We will never figure out why it is broken then.

It's the bottom one, "Videos" that is not showing up as a share for the Services.

Strange. It looks ok there. What is the output of: sudo omv-showkey sharedfolder

  • Once in a while I do manage to come up against an issue that anyone else here could solve with one hand behind them. This perhaps is a bit more interesting.

  • I can't say I'm an expert in the layout of those files, but I do see something that might explain it. Comparing 2 shares that have both listed your Files/Server Media as part of the path, the Music one has no underscore in the path and the Videos one does.

  • Yeah, the two different versions of the foldername was due to me trying to fix the problem by renaming that pathname with an underscore, in case a space was confusing things. I it didn't fix the problem, the one with the space was then out of date. So time to bring a bigger hammer. Deleted both shares, put them back in and now MiniDLNA sees the shares. So, who knows? Life is a mystery. Anyway, all good.

    Thanks all, for the help.
