Getting Errors after trying to upgrade

  • Hi Team,

First of all a thumbs up for all the great developers responsible for OMV.

I upgraded from version 5 to version 6 two days back and am really loving the new dashboard. :)

    Environment Details:

    ---------------------------

    OpenMediaVault Version: 6.3.2-1 (Shaitan)

Linux Version: Debian Linux version 11

    Kernel version: Linux 5.4.203-1-pve

    Hardware: WD DX4000

    Boot Media: 16GB USB

    Data Drives: 8TB, 4TB, 2 x 2TB SATA Disks

The OMV version 5 was running without any issues for a couple of years.

Yesterday i upgraded to version 6. using the below commands:

    sudo omv-salt stage run deploy

    sudo omv-upgrade

    sudo omv-release-upgrade

The upgrade went smoothly and i was up and running with OMV6.

Then i got a notification for some new updates. So i decided to update them as well from the Web Interface. The updates started happening. But after some time he web interface timed out and automatically logged me out. This caused disconnection for the updates that were happening at that time.

Now the notification section always tells me that there are background tasks happening. But when i try to attach to them i get the below error:

500 - Internal Server Error Failed to open file (filename=/tmp/bgstatuszlNwEI, mode=r). 3 minutes ago

If i try to stop the background task it gives me the same error again.

    Below screenshots for reference.

I actually tried to play safe and took a system boot disk backup before the update using the backup utility (openmediavault-backup 6.1) using dd full disk method.

I was able to restore this backup onto a new 32GB USB using Win32 Disk Imager on Windows 10 but that didn't work. The USB did boot into OMV installation but it gave some new errors and i was not able to configure the network. I then installed debian linux 11 on a VM on WMware workstation and did a backup restore using dd but that ended in the same result.

Now, since the backup is useless. I guess my only chance is to make the current install functional.

Is there any command that i can run that does integrity check on the current install and repair any errors?

Or, somehow to cancel the background tasks and errors.

    Best regards,

    Adeel

  • Have you tried clearing the browser cache? Have you rebooted the system? If nothing helps, simply run rm  /tmp/bgstatus* fromCLI.

Hi Yes, i cleared browser cache several times and even tried using a different browser (Initially was using on firefox and now tried on Microsoft Edge as well).

    Have rebooted also several times.

The below command returns an error that no such file or directory.

    root@openmediavault:~# rm /tmp/bgstatus*

rm: cannot remove '/tmp/bgstatus*': No such file or directory

    root@openmediavault:~#

    • Offizieller Beitrag

If there is no file like /tmp/bgstatusxxx, then there shouldn't be a notification that there is a running background task.

  • Maybe you should search the forum for 5to6 to fix various issues that users may have after migration.

The system was running fine after the migration and i dint get any errors either.

This only started happening when the updates on version 6 were interrupted because of the web interface logout.

  • Maybe you should search the forum for 5to6 to fix various issues that users may have after migration.

If i try to run the sudo omv-upgrade command now again from ssh. I get the below errors.

  • You have an issue with DNS. Add a DNS Server to your network settings. Usually the IP of your router and add another public DNS server like 1.0.0.1

    Thanks for the suggestion.

When i try to add the DNS server from the Web Interface. I get the below error.

There is only one active network interface. which is enx00e04c682a54.

If i remove that there is no way to access the system. Since that is what i am accessing the web interface from.

I tried removing the other interface enp3s0.

But when i click apply changes the web interface just reloads and no changes are applied.

Ok. I was able to remove the enp3s0.

Only one network interface now shows which is enx00e04c682a54.

Cant remove that since that is what i can currently connected to.

  • Than there should be two in config.xml.
