Mount NFS Share as VMWare ESX Datastore (but just readonly!)

  • Hi everbody!

    First of all, great board to support user and to help each other!

    At first i want to provide you some information:

    ================================================================================
    = OS/Debian information
    ================================================================================
    No LSB modules are available.
    Distributor ID: Debian
    Description: Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye)
    Release: 11
    Codename: bullseye

    ================================================================================
    = openmediavault information
    ================================================================================
    Release: 6.3.2-2
    Codename: Shaitan

    Shared Folder: VMWARE_DS_EXT

    Shares NFS: VMWARE_DS_EXT

    "Service User": vmware_ext Groups: users

    rw on shared folder

    I map / mount the nfs folder with vmware esx as with the provided user and password and NFSv4 as datastore and it works! But just readable. I can see Folder inside this share, that i create e.g. with root directly in the shell but when i try to create a folder i get an error message. After some try and error i extend the permissions from (owner: rwx,users:rw,others:rx) to others: rwx

    And see, now i can create folder within the esx webgui on the nfs share from omv and here is the question:

    i mount this nfs share as vmware_ext but with the new permissions, new folders are created by "nobody:users"

    What i'm doing wrong?

    There are no special parameter or something, everything per default.

    Thanks for some answers!
