iso to install 6.3.4-1 (Shaitan) directly ?

  • Hi forum

I am a newbie to openmediavault ...(not to debian ...but)

...Impressed enough that I want spread word and sample(s) ;)...

I would like to carry a usb stick with 6.3.4-1 (Shaitan) around to "friends"

    - Anybody know if such a beast is located someplace already ?
    - Anybody got a link for a "How to make a openmediavault install iso" ? (it's been years and years ;)

    Regards & Thanks in advance

    Reinhold

P.S.: (and I did search the forum and duckduck) ;/ ...and I do have reason to want a current stick (only) ;) :saint:

just write the iso file on sourceforge to the usb stick with something like usbimager. It will be an older version but any install should update as one of the first steps.

    omv 6.4.0-2 Shaitan | 64 bit | 6.2 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 6.2.1 | kvm 6.2.14 | compose 6.6.2 | cputemp 6.1.3 | mergerfs 6.3.7

omv-extras.org plugins source code and issue tracker - github

  • HI ryecoaaron - Thanks for the fast response.

That's what I've done couple of times recently

    _BUT_

the install+upgrade takes HOURS this way ...especially on slow net access ...worse with slow USB stick setups

At least 2 visits I intend we just don't have that much time

An "up to date iso" would really help

On what kind of system? I have literally done this hundreds of times and it doesn't take hours even on an rpi2.

The isos are a lot of work to create. If you want to save time, you could install a fresh system from iso in a location with fast internet and update it. Then copy the .deb files from /var/cache/apt/archives/ to a usb stick. On the new system in a location with slow internet, copy the files from the usb stick to /var/cache/apt/archives/ on that system. apt should use them avoiding the download time at least. If the usb stick is so slow, it is taking hours, spend the few dollars ($8 on amazon) to get something faster.

  • Tnx

In the most severe cases: The omv system(s) install process has been hurt several times(!) by a "USB+BT KeyboardMouse" (I carry around)

(would interfere with the reads from "iso" USB 1Gb USB stick and writes on 64Gb Sanddisk "system" disk - Error 504 - of couse all USB2 ;/ ) 6h+ :-(((

Family (me) run's several (JEOS = open- libreelec) media setups working USB on "aged" hardware - so USB can work BUT <g>

...for me personally I decided to "invest" in tiny SSD with controller i.e. some hardware upgrade (trusted "greyback" hp ProLiant Micro Server)

In times long gone (I ran SME-Server ltr. KNOPPIX was novel & popular <g>) I have (somehow<g>) managed to "assemble" linux iso(s).

I wouldn't dare nowadays - but I am quite willing to experiment ... time now being a free resource ;/

.. if somebody points me in the right direction (reading & looking up & testing stuff OK).

    - I will need little handholding if pointed to written material (I hope) but will come back here (of course)

    LINKS?

    WHO AUTHORED THE CURRENT ISO?
