Is a RAID1 boot disk possible with OMV 6.x?

  • Hi everyone,

    I'm checking out OMV 6.x on my server and really liking it so far. One thing I'm wondering about though is if there's a way to convert my ext4 boot ssd into an mdadm raid-1 mirror with something like dm-integrity? I have an exact copy of the SSD in the same chassis unused and my previous OS (proxmox, which is also based on debian) allowed this as a configuration option.

    Even if this configuration isn't officially supported, is it possible/will it conflict with OMV's management of the system?

    I would say the safest way to do this is to install debian on top of the raid. And then OMV on debian.

  • ah gotcha, fair enough I could do this too. I installed with ISO but will reinstall that way since not much has gotten settled yet in my config.

    are there any "gotcha's" I should watch out for when doing this?

    It's fairly straight forward.. use the Debian netinstall.iso (whatever the current stable version is)..

    Go through all the setup, etc. and when it comes time to install software, only install openssh server.

    After install is complete, SSH the server, and run the omv-extras install script to install OMV and omv-extras.

    Then you'll be pretty much right where you are right now.;
