Supermicro X10SL7-F

  • So it's been awhile since I've build a system from the ground up... I think I'm not missing any steps.......

    Supermicro X10SL7-F
    Xeon E3-1240 v3
    2x Crucial DDR3-1600 1.35v ECC 8GB DIMM

Because I've had trouble -- I've got the board on my work bench.
Memory inserted into channel A (slots 1 & 2.. the black slots)
I have the power supply connectors attached, the main and the CPU power supply
I have the cpu mounted...... and heat sink w/ fan plugged in.
I have the case Power Switch & Reset switch wires hooked to the board.

When I power on.... i get only the Supermicro logo...

This is the 2nd board, 2nd processor and 2nd 16 gig of memory.
    I've tried a Pentium G3220 originally.
I've tried the suggested memory from the compatibility list .. (samsung modules) . . .
The original had parts had the same behavior.

I'm almost ready to return it all and get a different brand of board.
    Am I missing something?

    Thanks
    Z

I have that same board. Can you hit ESC or DEL to show the details screen or go into the bios? Look on your router for the IPMI address (remote access). If you go to this address in a browser (even with system off), you can access the remote access control and there is some diagnostic information available there that might help you.

  • One thing that might help... When the logo is up, the bottom left of the screen has the text "System Initializing" . . And on the right,, I see a set of numbers.. At first 15. Then 32, then power off.

I have a set of the ddr3 8gb samsung modules on the tested memory list. It behaves the same as with the crucial memory.

This is the 2nd board that's done this, I'm kinda at my wits end...

Did you try logging into the ipmi interface while the system was off?

Does it beep at all when turning it on? What is the full part number of the memory? I am using this.

  • So, I hooked the server up to my router to get to the IPMI ... rad thing!
Anyways -- It didn't show anything about the motherboard. No eventlogs, no diag information about the server, nothing.
The only thing was the postcode... was ff. Supermicro will have that.
The UI was void of anything useful; it seems.

The memory is Samsung, that is on the memory list

    The Crucial is:

  • It could also be your power supply which has a defect. I have seen this a couple of times. In your case it sounds like the power supply does not supply the needed amp or volts through the 4 or 8 pin atx cpu wire.

still don't know what memory sticks to get.

In the fifth post of this topic, I told you what sticks I am using in my production server (for months).
