Can't login via WEB GUI

kcore isn't really using that much space. It just represents the most memory your system can address. Here is mine:

    -r-------- 1 root root 140737477877760 Jan 3 11:40 kcore

If you du -h /proc/kcore, it should show 0.

What is the output of: ls -alh /var/log/

Weird... I can't tell what is using up all the space unless something wrote to /media/uuid while a drive was unmounted. I would try to unmount the data drives to see if those folders are filled with files. If you can't unmount from OMV, then boot systemrescuecd and only mount the os drive.

  • I loaded PMagic to check the system disk and found that rsnapshot accidentally copied backup files to it instead of to data disks. Webgui came back after deleting these files. I have been using rsnapshot for more than one year without a flaw. Just don’t know why this happened last Friday, the backup last night was however fine.

Thanks ryecoaaron for your help. :)

  • I know this thread is old, but I am currently facing the same issue on my OMV v2. It was working fine the night before and this morning I can't log into OMV through webgui. I can access webgui but when i enter login info it just wont login. I am stuck and don't know what to do after ls -alh /var/lib/ command.

Plex and/or docker is probably filling your drive.

apt-get clean might free up enough space. Otherwise, you may have to do some docker cleanup from the command line.

  • Thanks for that, however, it didn't work. I still couldn't login to OMV. Is there a guide on how to clean up through command line? I'm really not linux savvy.

  • So I am trying to fix the problem by uninstalling docker plugin through OMV but doesn't free up anything. I'm trying to now delete /var/lib/docker directory but I'm getting an error that device or resource busy. Any help would be much appreciated.

UPDATE: I have figured it out. I had to do a reboot and was able to take care of the problem. Now i have all my disk space back that docker used. I'm' going to reinstall the plugin and try again and hopefully won't fill up as bad.

df shows the overlay filesystem is using a ridiculously huge amount of space (71 GB). Interestingly, vmware shows the vmdk is only 21 GB so I don't understand what is going on. I don't want to resize the vmdk without first figuring out whats going on. Keep in mind, I've only had this system up for less than a week.

  • Same her, is it a bug? I have one docker: transmission but set it to not store on system disk. But her we have 100%

We don't now how many people how leaving OVM because of this. Maybe me to.

Who, where? Do you have any statistics?

Every time I look at the download statistics for omv and omv-extras, it is larger than the last.

It's pretty obvious the root partition on sdb is full... As ryecoaaron said a couple times in this thread, it's likely rsync, Plex and/or Docker has filled your root directory. I admire all the folks that have put together walk through's on Docker, but unless I've missed it, none of them address or explicitly point out that a shared folder for Containers should be created on a storage drive (since most people have fairly small OS drives). The fact the Dockers plugin defaults to the root directory if no Containers folder is set is even worse, IMO. I've seen this problem quite a few times and other than people having massive logs, usually from rsync not being configured correctly... Docker is the most common problem. The strange thing is, all of the tutorials do go through properly setting up a directory for your configuration folders.. and these generally are pretty small (I've got 7 containers running and mine is under 50mb). Is there a way to not allow the plugin to be enabled, unless a Container folder is specified? It would solve this issue (at least as it relates to Docker).

I will say, acting like a petulant child and "threatening to leave" over this issue is really no way to endear yourself to anyone and get help.

  • The similar problem.
