Trying to Upgrade OMV 5 to 6

If I'm not mistaken you should still be able to receive Debian 10 updates. What's wrong? Post the error output.

If you see stretch entries, you are either still on OMV 4.x or you have bad entries in your sources. Post the output of: sudo apt-get update

Soma - i tried that and command is not found, i tried omv-update and i get a similar message as above

It's actually omv-upgrade

But that will just bring your current install current (which is fine).

To actually upgrade, you need to omv-release-upgrade

Edit: Oh dang, I forgot 4 was based on stretch.

Your sources list are obviously a mess.

I'd just clean install 6, but that's me.

You must install Debian 11, OMV depends on Debian 11.

When you install unplug the data drives (as always recommended), then just mount them and your data will still be there.

As said, instead of upgrading it would be preferable to do a fresh install.

The procedure to install in 32 bits (if you have no choice but to use 32 bits) is here.

omv6:i386_32-bit_install [omv-extras.org]

It should work without a problem.

i've omv installed on an SSD and using 2 HDD for data, will the additional HDDs im using be ok ? as the data wont be affected ? im assuming the will but i will need to note the shared folder names etc. when setting up the omv6

OMV 6 runs on Debian 11, so you'll need to use Debian 11 as well.

The general procedure for a clean install..

1. Disconnect data drives.

2. Reinstall OMV to your OS drive and update.

3. Connect data drives

4. Start adding shares, etc. back to the webUI and services

If you're doing a clean install as I suggested, you don't need to unmount the drives.

Power off

Unplug drives (sata cable or power cable)

Install Debian 11

Install OMV on top of Debian with the script

Connect drives

Mount drives (under Filesystems)

Start adding your shares, services, etc. back
