MiniDLNA app, there are alternatives?

Hello...

I stream music from the OMV server directly to my receiver (with network connection). I use the OMV plugin "MiniDLNA" for this.

Following problem:

1. During playback, the connection to the server sometimes disconnects without reason

2. my Android app (Neutron player) reads the music library every time it restarts, which takes quite a long time

3. Volumio disconnects during playback and deletes music DB for no reason

I've now read here in some threads that MiniDLNA should not be used. Instead e.g. Jelyfin... I have Emby, but I don't want to integrate my music library into Emby. Only used for videos/movies.

Is there a sensible alternative that doesn't constantly lose the connection. I need simple music streaming, without extra functions such as displaying album covers, searching for information on the web (scrobbling), pointless sorting functions. I only use folder searches. Neither albums, nor artists or anything else.

My emergency solution is streaming via PC to receiver via S/PDIF cable. But I don't want to constantly turn on the PC just to listen to music. OMV runs constantly...

Pretty sure volumio can read from nfs and a quick search makes it seem like Neutron can as well. I use nfs for all of my media. I have one nfs share for video and one for music.

I guess it depends on what devices you're streaming to.. but if it's basically just laptops and phones/tablets... I use Navidrome in docker. Very simple to setup and use.

Guess I cut that off a bit soon, for apps.. There's plenty available.. I use substreamer.. but any app compatible with subsonic should work just fine.

On PC/Notebook I created the release via SMB... But Neutron Player and Volumio have problems with that.

But these two apps are media servers. I already use Volumio (RasPi) for music and Emby Docker for media. I play the Emby files with Kodi.

I need something similar to miniDLNA. So a headless streamer/server, where you only have to specify the music folder and that's enough. GUI is OK, but without the additional functions (plugins/addons, MusicBrainz/LastFM, cover display, Top100, etc.).

After I had the same problem with my TV via MiniDLNA and the media player installed there (eternally long reading of the music library) I installed the file manager+ on the Android TV. It can play many media formats. Select and configure the Remote SMB and enter the data from the NAS (IP address without additions). After connecting to the NAS, you can access your media via folders without having to read media libraries.

Yes, it has ... but I don't necessarily want to integrate my music library into emby. I only use Emby for films and series. That's why I have my music run over a second Raspi.

Unfortunately I have no Android TV ... I could install the file manager+ on your cell phone, but I have to stream from your cell phone to TV or receiver every time.

I'll take a closer look at navidrone ... seems to be pretty good, there are many positive reports about it.

defr0ke can I ask how you are progressing with this? I'm in a very similar situation in that I have my Music and TV shows running to my smart TVs, Chromecast & PCs using Plex, but I also need to stream music to my Yamaha HT receiver which only supports DLNA. I've tried miniDLNA in the past, but didnt work very well.

From what I've read Navidrome doesn't support DLNA so I have not tried that.. Volumio doesn't seem to support containers...

please do let me know what you land on.

plex in host mode works as DLNA server too.

Yes thanks. As the OP mentioned I'd prefer to treat music and movies separately but Plex may be the simplest.

FYI and to defr0ke i've decided to stick with Plex. When I checked the DLNA option in Plex, it listed my music by folder, artist etc. on the client. I did try to install Gerbera, it worked but was pretty rudimentary. From my research very few of the other popular media servers successfully implement DLNA. ke

I solved it pragmatically at first. I have a total of two Rasp Pis (1x living room, 1x children's room). OSMC is installed on it, they get their films, documentaries and series from Emby, which runs as Docker in OMV. I also have the music on an extra hard drive on the OMV, which was shared via SMB and NFS. I let the music loop through the Rasp Pi (OSMC). In both rooms, the Rasp Pi are each connected to a receiver via HDMI. In the children's room there are two normal loudspeakers and the TV, in the living room TV and 7.1 loudspeakers.

In all cases, the music is controlled via the smartphone. I'm currently testing MPD and Navidrome. I had tried a few other options beforehand, none of which appealed to me.

However, I still think Volumio was the best solution. Wonderful plugins and an excellent DSP (equalizer), where no other comes close to the quality.

Unfortunately I had to stay away from Volumio because its performance has been catastrophic since the last major update. When I fast forward music, it crashes regularly. Also, I have to constantly reload the music library because it gets lost for some unknown reason. Although they have now fixed the problem with not recognizing USB hard drives, they have caused other problems. That was too much for me because it was no longer usable. Unfortunately, a faulty program was created from an excellent program. I don't know why, but there are many reports of these problems on the forum.

Hi, im using omv mainly for music server .

A few years ago i had a same setup as yours .

Omv for music storage with Nfs share , and a Raspi with volumio connected to my ampli .

Raspi was with the DAC bc my ampli was old.

By the way, i tried a ton of music app, and now i use Polaris docker , it's really cool and simple.

UI is very clean and can handle a lot of Tb of music without problem and no conversion to .mp3 ( i had only lossless ).

Ther's also the android app.

Hi @raulfg3, yeah Polaris is great.

I think is one on the best music app, for it's simplicity ( my uses case is listen my music from outside my home ).

I use with Swag+Authelia , the only downside is that you cant use the native android app, but only the web.
