To make a backup using the backup plugin is easy, but to restore is not so easy. Especially as you have the root fs and a data fs on that drive. So make sure you test the restore procedure.

I have a feeling this is not going to work as well as he thinks it is. Hopefully he does a proof of concept test.

It works perfectly, although as macom said it's not as easy as it may seem.

If you are not an experienced linux user (which I don't know) it would be preferable to install OMV on a pendrive and create images of that pendrive regularly. Restoration is as simple as burning that image stored on any other flash drive.

Yeah. You can do it with imageusb and OMV will work fine. But the partition on the new disk will be the same size as the old disk, so you will have to expand the partition to take advantage of all the space. The easiest thing to do should be to do it with Gparted, but don't lose the original disk, sometimes expanding the partition causes problems.

mmm I assumed that drive is USB stick, but rereading your post I'm not so sure...

If it is a SATA hard drive you will have to use clonezilla or something similar.

In that case you will have to use clonezilla. imageusb will not help you burn the image to the SSD.

I seem to remember that clonezilla allows you to extend the partition, but I'm not sure. If you install the openmediavault-kernel plugin you will have clonezilla available from the plugin.

Another option is to use this, perhaps easier.

What is the purpose of installing OMV on a 1TB drive? I think this doesn't make much sense.
