USD drive NTFS very slow

Dear all,

I try to use an USB Hard drive formated NTFS on an USB3 port as a storage drive in Openmediavault. Mounting the file system and crating shares on it is working well. However, I experience very slow transfer on the drive 9-10 Mb/s. This HD drive works at 100 Mb/s on another system. Openmediavault is working on a miniPC windows 10, under virtualbox. The USB driver in virtualbox is Controler 3 xHCI which sounds good to me.

I am a clear beginner so I do not know where is the problem.

Don't use NTFS pal on OMV if you can help it. User ext4 etc..

edit = or windows if you can help it.

go OMV >> KMV >> Windows

What do you mean by these 2 sentenses (sorry I am not English language, nor a specialist):

"edit = or windows if you can help it."

That combination can cause many different problems. It is difficult to find out the real cause.

The first issue is that you are using a disk formatted with a non-native linux file system and you have configured services on it. Shared folders and samba. This is not recommended at all, use only NTFS for occasional file transfers. For everything else it uses native Linux file systems, EXT4, BTRFS, ...

The second issue is that OMV is in a virtual machine. So any configuration done incorrectly in virtualbox could be causing this. Maybe some user can help with this if they know virtualbox, but it would be better to ask virtualbox for support, I don't know if there is a virtualbox forum. Virtualizing OMV is fine for testing.

There could be other factors causing the low transfer speed, but I would start by ruling out possible problems with virtualbox.

Also make sure that that minipc has a gigabit network interface and all intermediate elements on the network are too.

I would install OMV first than use the plugin KMV to install windows ontop of OMV in a VM. not the other way around. (so windows in a VM not OMV)

I've never used OMV on Virtualbox before. Just always different operating systems. Have you created a USB filter in the VM's settings for the USB hard drive?
