Cannot mount an existing ext4 file system from an USB connected HDD

  • Hello,

I have an ext4 formatted HDD (as I can remember I made the file system some years ago with OMV 3.x ). This HDD was in my OMV NAS via some SATA port installed and worked w/o any issue since then. I replace this HDD with a larger one and now I try to copy the old HDD, now connected via USB 3.0 port, to the new HDD. The USB HDD is visible under 'Storage | Disks' as '/dev/sde' but if I go to 'Storage | File Systems -> Mount an existing file system. -> File system' I cannot see anything in the drop down list. What can I do (I restarted OMV already, no change)?

    Thanks!

  • This reply isn't what was asked.

What is needed is the complete command and full output of them.

  • Sorry, I was not aware how copy the large amount of text. Here it is:

  • Not good news.

No partition is seen/exist on that drive.

Might be the USB-2-SATA adapter you are using or your drive has simply lost it.

Since you had it created attached with a SATA connection, you can try again with it plugged on a SATA port and check again.

Or try a different USB-2-SATA adapter and see if something change.

Otherwise, you need to create a new partition and ALL DATA will be lost
