Hello i'm new to OMV 
I Want to use my old mac mini as plex server and decided to use OMV5 as system for it.
I already installed the OMV extras but they don't seem to work

So what's wrong here?
1. You should install OMV6, not OMV5. OMV5 is obsolete.
2. If you want to install plex easily without "thinking" you can follow this:

We could make a script that does all that, but I think it's not that hard to follow the instructions without thinking.
On a mac i go to the app store, install plex and use plex - THAT is easy! 👌

sorry i had a qnap. greatest bullshit ever seen!!!
it destroyed my hole library. it took me 10 month to restore about the half of my data.
and now i look for a new home for my media. i thought a mac mini with ubuntu would be nice. but i did not get the screen and file sharing function work. so i tried omv because a friend said this will be easy. but it isnt.
so im still looking for a new home for my movie collection...

So, just use the MAC as is with plex app installed.
Or ask your friend that said OMV is easy, to do it for you.
Don't expect to be "piggy-backed" when you don't feel slightly interested in learning.

Regarding the rest, I will only say that if you want to use OMV there is a small learning curve (as with everything) that you cannot ignore. OMV is easy, but if you are not willing to go through that learning, you are in the wrong place. You decide, but don't expect anyone to take you by the hand. We can tell you where the information you need is, but you will have to read it yourself.
By the way, if you buy a Synology you also have to learn how to use it, it's not about opening the package, plugging it in and pressing a button.

btw: this guide is for 1 hdd only. i have 4 hdds (in exfs4) 8-)
So you must adapt it to your case or it will not work for you. It is a basic guide.
