Using the existing plugins on OMV I would say the way you did it is the only way. There may be some procedure for what you want, but apart from OMV, you would have to configure it manually if it exists.

I found a solution. I found a "Wake on lan command line" program "wolcdm.exe" from softpedia.com.
I then created this batchfile below:

echo off
c:
cd user\username
wolcmd E83935EE2ADD 192.168.1.62 255.255.255.0 7
MAC adr IP-adr Subnet Port
I then created a shortcut to the batch file and placed the shortcut in the users "start folder",
because somehow the bat files it self cannot be executed in this folder but the shortcut can.
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp

This seems to work and then use the "Auto Shut down plugin to shut down OMV after use.
