Help! Cannot install Docker because of DNS error

  • Hello guys!

I'm trying to install Docker though OMV Extras in omv6 but i'm experiencing DNS error.

    Here's my system info.

I also tried some solutions that make me type "ⅵ /etc/resolv.conf"

    but it didn't help me..

i also typed my DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 in Network>Interface setting

    didn't solved either..

Before installing Docker, you REALLY need to update your system. I'm not sure how you have a version of OMV that old.

    omv 7.4.14-1 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.11 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.15 | compose 7.2.16 | k8s 7.3.1-1 | cputemp 7.0.2 | mergerfs 7.0.5 | scripts 7.0.9

omv-extras.org plugins source code and issue tracker - github - changelogs

Please try ctrl-shift-R and read this before posting a question.

Please put your OMV system details in your signature.
Please don't PM for support... Too many PMs!

well, i don't find any updates in Update Management..

I read an article below and tried update through CLI, but it has an error
    https://docs.openmediavault.or….html#installing-software

  • did you tick the docker repo before installing it? System >> omv-extras >> docker repo

    You mean testing repo?

When i check it and apply, 500-internal server error occurs

Possibly a DNS problem. Make sure you have your DNS configured on the network interface. Then update the system. Then activate the docker repository in the omv-extras tab. Then install the openmediavault-compose plugin.

Like it's been said, you have a DNS issue for a long time and your OS hasn't been updated since ever.

How is your network confgured? And how is the OMV plugged? Ethernet wire or Wifi?

Just go on CLI, run sudo omv-firstaid and configure the network to only use DHCP IPv4.

After, post each of the outputs inside CODE boxes of:

    sudo omv-aptclean repos

    ping -c 5 8.8.8.8

    ping -c 5 google.com

    sudo omv-upgrade

  • Thanks you

    Firstaid command saved me.

I updated my OMV to latest 6.9.9 version and I was able to use portainer and docker. :)

    Firstaid command saved me.

If you need to set a static IP just make sure to configure the DNS Server field, as I already said. That was the only problem.
