Is there a way to balance mergerfs over pool

    • Official Post

Is there a way to balance mergerfs over pool? So far I have one 16gb full and the other empty.

There are balance utilities in the plugin. But sounds like you are using the wrong policy if they aren't balanced and you want them to be.

Your problem is almost always caused by using an existing path policy but not having the needed directory structure in place.

You can manually move files between disks out of band (don't write back to the pool). Or use the tools.

A backup strategy is worthless unless you have a verified to work by testing restore strategy.

Be careful with the utility to balance a group. There are people who have a folder pointing to only one of the disks in the group, for example to run docker in that folder. If this is the case and you click balance you will probably break docker.

Then use balancing ONLY if there are no folders pointing to a single disk in the group.
