host name gets changed to host name-2 resulting in failing Time Machine backups

  • Hello,

I have a recurring problem in which the host name for the SMB/CIFS service is changing because a "-2" is appended to it. This is causing the Time Machine share on my OMV not being identified and so the backups are failing.

I see some error in the syslog but I cannot figure out what is happening, does anyone have some hint? Here is the log info:

  • Hello,

Yes I am using a Plex container which I think is using Avahi, the image is from linuxserver/plex:latest.

  • Now I have masked the avahi-daemon service and it seems the problem is fixed: I still see the smb shares from my Mac, although with a different icon, and I could also discover the Time Machine service which now shows with the server IP adddress instead of the hostname.

So, masking avahi seems to have solved the issue. I will check further if everything works fine.
