Dashboard Updates available

  • This morning I received an email notification from aptichron saying I have an update available. My current version is 7.0-29 RC1

    Code
apticron has detected that some packages need upgrading on:

            hostname
            [ ip address ]

The following packages are currently pending an upgrade:

            openmediavault 7.0-30

However the Dashboard Updates available still indicates "No." I tried refreshing the browser several times but still no change.

So, my question is why hasn't the Dashboard Updates available indicated "Yes"?

  • I checked with Webmin and it did indicate that updates were available. Then I checked OMV again and the Dashboard finally changed state to indicate there were updates available.

    Guess it's not an issue.

  • In my case I have information from 'webmin' about a new version of Debian (see figure).

My question is if I can update without affecting OMV7.

I did 'apt clean' and there are still no updates available.

    Post the output of

    sudo omv-aptclean repos

    sudo apt list --upgradable

    sudo omv-upgrade

  • Here is:

    Code
    sudo apt list --upgradable
    Listing... Done

If you don't see any updates now, then they are installed. Debian 12.5 is just a release. Running apt-get update once will tell the system it is Debian 2.5 but this really isn't important. Installing all updates is the important part. Another reason why running something like webmin with OMV is confusing. They do a lot of the same things.

Okay, thanks, I'll follow your advice.

Is it bad to do updates via ssh? I find it easier to use omv-upgrade command in ssh terminal.

Depends. omv-upgrade should do the same things the web interface is doing. The only time something might be different is if an update prompts you with a question and you pick something other than the default. I do all of my updating from the command line.

  • The webmin information persists.

    I'm afraid to update.

Maybe the best thing is to do nothing...

It says that is up to date. Not that there's updates

  • Post the output of

    sudo omv-aptclean repos

    Okay, thanks.
