Samba shares for individual folders on BTRFS

Hi all,

it seems, that in the OMV Web-UI Samba Shares are linked to shared folders.

On the other hand, creating shared folders on an BTRFS HDD automatically creates BTRFS subvolumes.

This is something I don't need or want.

I only want to have one big BTRFS volume, but I want to be able to have different entry points via Samba.

Is there any way to accomplish this (e.g. by manually adding the path to the subfolder)?

Or maybe by preventing Shared Folders to create subvolumes.

I know, and that's fine to have. But it is sufficient (for me) to have it once. I do not need it more often.

I just saw your other thread regarding this topic and decided to give more info about my configuration.

This is what I have:

My disk is formatted with BTRFS. My top level Shared Folders are only there to structure the snapshots. Which means, I have two top level Share Folders on that disk called:

- long-retention

- short-retention

Those are also SubVolumes in BTRFS. They are also exposed using Samba, but only accessible for the admin user and they do NOT have the recycle bin activated.

Below those two SubVolumes I have the Shared Folders I work with (e.g. Multimedia, homes, etc.) These are just plain folders, no BTRFS SubVols. They are of course exposed using Samba and they HAVE usually the recycle bin activated. So thats one recycle bin for each of the shares that are no SubVol.

This is what works for me.
