Upgrade from OMV4 errors; considering fresh install

  • Hello all,

I've been an active tinkerer for several years now with OMV. I currently run Arrakis and while for my needs, that has worked perfectly, i'd like to upgrade to more current software to take advantage of some new services and plugins like Wireguard. I tried the update scripts and got errors. Admittedly, I'm very much a novice, but can usually work through the coding with no training, to get up and running.

Since I'm running into errors in my logs on the update script from 4 to 5, I was thinking it may actually be easier to just upgrade the OS drive to a new drive. I have a home built NAS powered by a 250gb NVMe hard drive which runs OMV. I have multiple drives connected to the current OMV. My thought was, is it as simple as just buying a new/blank NVMe and swap out the current with OMV4 on it for the new blank one....unplug all current storage drives, and then install the most recent OMV on the new drive. Then re-connect the storage drives and remount?

Happy to help provide an update log from the update script, but honestly i'm not sure how to get that off an SSH from a windows machine into OMV.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

Yes, it's that easy. And probably the best way instead of trying to update 4->5 then 5->6 then 6>7. That can be quite long and painful.

Thanks! I appreciate the reply! I'll give it a shot then!
