Move from DS923+ to a own build

Good morning,

first, sorry for my bad english.

I will move from my synology ds923+ to a own build NAS.

It shouldn't be able to do much, I want 4 users who can access their data via SMB. Then a disaster backup of my Proxmox/Pbs should be saved there via NFS. And maybe a Nextcloud should run. All my other things like bitwarden pihole homeassistant are on proxmox as VM/Lxc.

A case with 4 hard drives would be important because I already have these from my synology. They are 4 TB drives, which I would configure as raid 5.

Another thing that shouldn't be neglected is the power consumption because openmediavault should run 24/7.

I would like to install openmediavault on an m2 or ssd in a mirror.

I've already found a few builds here in the forum, but I think most of them are overpowered for my project.

Does anyone have any good input here?

yes, I read your report, it will probably be the best choice and will definitely be enough for just data and nextcloud.

had openmediavault for some years on a rasperry and was happy and then I testet almost all NAS, Synology, qnap, ownbuild Truenas but openmediavault looks and work's very well and is easy to use.

and before I install it on top of proxmox I build it myself, so my urge to tinker is satisfied and it is an independent system^^

When the jonsbo n2 is back in stok then I build my own server how chente descripted with the D100 board 16gb ram 300w bequit and 1 m.2 ssd.

Now I read a lot of Raid and what is the beste.

Some writte mdadm with ext4, other snapraid with mergefs.

What's the easiest and most recommend raid for my raid (5) with 4x4TB hdd's?

When the raid can easy encrypt with luke or so it's also nice.

Need not, nice to have yes.

When I now think about ZFS then I need a motherboard that support ECC Ram and maybe 32GB.

Do you know a Motherboard with ECC support and a "normal" price with also low energy consum?

now i read some of the zfs file system, this look realy nice, but whats not clear is first the pool will create, then the filesystem.

Is it right for my understood:

Pool named tank and then create a dataset shared and in /tank/shared I can creat the shared folder from the OMV gui?
