N100 and 4xSATA 3.5″ HDDs: Different options

  • Hello,

I have had a HP microserver n36l with 4 SATA 3.5″ HDDs for many years.

I've been thinking for a while about setting up a NAS based on intel n100 or n305, with a couple of ethernet Gb2.5 interfaces. Mostly for storage, and dockers, also transcoding.

I was in love with the Helios64 but the project was abandoned and it was not x86.

I am thinking about a budget of about 250€.

I am looking at several options:

    Odroid H4(+,ultra)

    ODROID-H4Ultra.jpg

    topton/cwwk 6xSata board

    2_359adfa6-196c-410c-9a26-c427c6a54e12_1080x.jpg?v=1702113903

    ASUS Prime N100I-D D4

    w800

    Mini pc

    like GMKtec NucBox G3 (Intel N100 107mm x 107mm x 28mm))

Some of them would need expansion cards, or additional power supplies for the HDDs.

What would you choose and why?

  • I'm using a CWWK n305 for quite some time now and can say I won't need another.

    I opt for that one instead of a DC version since I use 4xHDDs + 2 SSDs + 2NVMe

A fanless 400w PSU is a bit overkill but wanted a low/null noise system.

CPU stationed on idle at ~3% and never goes over 15-20% even when serving Nextcloud/Jellyfin/NFS to a few users (mostly me and the wife at all times).

The CWWK board with the n305 will be above your budget but you can go with the n100 and will still be more than good.

  • which variant You have? Purple with 2 NICs or black with 4?
what is Your power consumption in idle?

  • black with 4?

    This one.

what is Your power consumption in idle?

My UPS shows ~37w on the display.

This is with all system running plus feeding power to my ISP router, a web CAM and a wireless phone.

In case of a power failure, outside communication is still available
