Best way to add more storage

  • Is there such thing as a "best way" to add more storage space to a MergerFS pool? Currently I'm using 2x4TB HDD and planning to at least double that storage space. Would be adding a 4TB+ HDD enough? Also, do I need to buy the exact same HDD manufacturer/model?

The whole point of mergerfs is that it can pool anything. So, add more drives of whatever size and quantity when you get them. Restart the system (restarting pool is hard if it is in use) to be able to use the space.

You mean time consuming? Or hard in the sense of complexity to configure, etc.?

Neither. The restart pool button won't restart the pool if it is in use by services on the system. Just reboot to make it easy.
