DNS Name issue

  • When I access my OMV shares from LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) the file browser shows the name as nas.local

The domain name on my LAN is not .local, yet it shows this.

I suspect this is causing a problem with accessing OMV shares when I use OPNSense firewall. After a few days, the SMB connection to my OMV is lost, and I cannot reconnect.

I'm not sure if this .local domain name insertion is being done by the host systems running LMDE, or by the OMV server itself.

Does anyone have this issue? At this point, I'm not sure if it is a problem with LMDE or OMV reporting an incorrect domain name. OPNSense specifically does not allow the use of .local as the domain name. My current router works fine, so it doesn't seem to have a problem with the .local domain name, even though it doesn't use this name. My aim is to use OPNSense, but I need to rule out the server or desktops as the culprits behind the .local domain name reporting.
