Extremely slow SMB write speeds

  • Hello all,

after already trying and analyzing a lot of things I dont know what to do anymore.

I got the following problem, when uploading things to my OMV server via SMB I have extremely slow speeds (1MB/s), downloading is fine at 80MB/s.

I checked the following: CPU usage, RAM usage, disk usage, network usage, iperf3 connection. All of this seems to be in order.

To my architecture: I have OMV running in a VM inside of Proxmox on a Mini PC, I also got some other VMs and Containers inside of Proxmox, I mounted the SMB drive inside some of them. When testing the write speed there I get expected results that roughly match the speed of my USB Hard drive connected to OMV.

I only get the slow speeds when uploading from separate devices, e.g. my PC or my phone. Iirc it also hasn't always been this way, I used to have faster write speeds over my network.

I also upgraded to OMV 7 now but the issue persists.

I would be really happe if any of you could help me.

    Greetings

I didn't reply to this thread because the OP said his system was virtualized in proxmox, which adds strange unknowns. Is your case the same? If not, you should open another thread.

  • Do you have the ClamAV AddOn enabled?

Had the same issue, slow upload speed. Download was full speed 1 Gbit.

I checked the upload speed to my HDD (which is used for SMB) via SFTP and the speed was also full speed 1 Gbit.

I removed the ClamAV AddOn and my speed issue was fixed.
