Can't mount an NFS export into OMV

  • I've installed OMV (172.51.0.2) on Proxmox and on Proxmox (172.51.0.1) I've created an NFS export:

    Code
    /mnt/pool/ 172.51.0.0/24(rw,fsid=1,sync,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check)

On OMV I've mounted the share, my fstab is:

    Code
    172.51.0.1:/mnt/pool /mnt/nfs nfs vers=3,rw 0 0

and I can see all the files in /mnt/nfs.

In OMV UI when I try to add a file system (Storate -> File System -> Mount an existing file system), in the File system selection I just see /dev/sr0:
(Screenshot attached, I don't know how to place it inline, sorry).

    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!

    Edit: OMV V7.4.3.1

OMV doesn't work that way. You can't create mounts in /etc/fstab and use them in the filesystems tab. You could use the remotemount plugin though.

I'll have a look at that plugin and I'll evaluate if just run a Samba server on Proxmox.

If you run OMV on host and use the kvm plugin for VMs, you don't have this issue. I run my system this way.

I can't, Proxmox has other VMs and I prefer to install nothing else except little things (Samba), but thanks for the idea.

    Proxmox has other VMs

Proxmox is KVM and those VMs would work just fine in the kvm plugin. But just thought I would suggest it.

Oh, so I guess that I didn't understand your previous post, sorry

You said to install OMV on the host, what I've called bare metal, which is a thing that I prefer to avoid, or what did you mean?
    Thanks.

host = bare metal. Some users are confused when I say bare metal. So, I usually use host.

Why do you prefer to avoid it? proxmox is proxmox (basically ubuntu) kernel with debian 12 userland. OMV (with the kernel plugin) is proxmox kernel with debian 12 userland. They both create KVM VMs. The only real difference is the web interface used to create them.

Because I prefer to install as few as possible. What is a VM can be snapshotted and most important, can't interfere with other VMs. If I have a problem with OMV (which happened), if it's a VM, I have a problem just with it, if it's on the host, it could interfere with anything else.
