Why is my Raid 1 array listed as "NTFS"?

  • Hey, I use OMV v7.4.4-1 (Sandworm) and I have 2 SSDs that I set up in Raid 1 (mirror).

The SSDs were new and unformatted, and it didn't ask me what type of file system I wanted when I was creating the array. When I go into Storage>File Systems, it's listed as "NTFS" for some reason, and when I try to click "show details" on it, I get "500 - Internal Server Error, File System does not provide details."

Is this normal? How can I switch the file system to EXT4?

When I got to Storage>multiple device and click "details" on the array I get the following info:

P.S. If you know anything about Trimming raid arrays of SSDs, please help here :P

This page does not show live-data, it shows file systems that have been configured to be mounted by OMV. So this ominous file system does not have anything to do with your newly created MD RAID. What is the status of the file system, is it "Online"? Maybe post a screenshot.

    Yes, it's online.

So does it even have a file system yet, or do I need to somehow create one? Sorry I'm a bit new to this.

This is looks strange to me. So this can only happen when the disks have been part of a previous MD array with a NTFS file system. Right. If you want to create a new file system, i suggest to wipe the disks before creating a new MD array. Then you can create a new file system on top of the MD device file.

That IS strange. The discs are brand new from the store, they shouldn't have any file system on them. Unless manufacturers started selling them with an NTFS partition pre-made for some arcane reason?

I'll try your suggestions and report back. Thanks for the help! :)

  • Absolutely the same result. Completely deleted the old MD Raid array, wiped both disks, set up a new array, waited 2 hours for it to finish syncing, and it's once again NTFS.

When creating the array I only get the Raid type and the disks as options. Looking at tutorials for OMV6, that's where the file system selection used to be, but it seems to be gone in OMV7.

    Any ideas?

When you used the wipe command, did it complete successfully of was there any error reported? Asking because I recently saw a post about having to wipe a disc at least twice in a row to completely get rid of a GPT partition on it before an MD RAID could be created correctly.

A straight MD array should have no filesystem reported after it syncs.
