Accessing LOCAL DNS [readarr.home] rather than 192.168.2.181:8083 using WireGuard

  • Hey

So when I am home, everything uses 192.168.3.5 as DNS Server as it is my PiHole. At home on LAN, all works correct when I go to the names such as plex.home, readarr.home etc.. On my WG in OMV I have DNS 1 192.168.3.5 and DNS 2 8.8.8.8. Am I configured wrong possibly in allowing my REMOTE user to access via domain name instead of IP:Port?

Changed the title of the thread from “Accessing LOCAL DNS [readarr.home] rather than 192.168.2.181:8083” to “Accessing LOCAL DNS [readarr.home] rather than 192.168.2.181:8083 using WireGuard”.

    Oh ok cool, ty

You could just bump the post instead of being irritated.

Am I configured wrong possibly in allowing my REMOTE user to access via domain name instead of IP:Port?

What is the difference? Does the domain name point to the same IP?

  • I was not irritated more being playful bump, but I can see how it came across as that so do forgive me.

I am not understanding what you mean. I use local DNS at home, plex.x.duckdns.org locally and it works… But when I am remote using WG, it times out. I can of course connect to the IP:PORT. Was just curious if this was normal to not have local dns through WG or if it was a setting…

This explanation makes much more sense than the first post. When you are remote, does it time out setting up the WG connection using the dns name or it times out resolving the dns name once you have connected to WG? If the latter, have you tried using something like nslookup to see what dns server your system is using when connected to WG?
